With Liverpool taking on AC Milan in the Champions’ League final tonight, Rafa Benitez and his team dominate the papers.
But it’s all a bit confused. According to the Daily
Mail, Liverpool are going out to get that trophy and Steven Gerrard has
been inspiring his teammates with a cry to ‘let’s go home as heroes
again’.
Gerrard is also going to be playing a key attacking role just behind lone striker Dirk Kuyt.
So attack, attack, attack, then? Er, not according to the Mirror, who’ve got Benitez claiming he’s ready for penalties.
The clues are there in the Mail’s coverage though.
‘We are there on merit,’ said the Liverpool boss, and all we need to do
in the final is to avoid conceding an early goal and concentrate on the
things we are good at.’
Yes, like stopping the other team playing and hoping to nick it on penalties.
‘No-one needs to try and produce the greatest piece
of skill the game has ever seen, or dribble the ball out of the area or
do something that will be remembered for ever. If we stick to our
strengths, we will have a great chance.’
So that’ll be penalties then.
Meanwhile, the Star is just sitting on the fence
with a general overview that AC Milan would be really jolly happy to
win the trophy.
They also mention, in another story, that Liverpool Vs AC Milan for the second time in three years? Why, there’s a ‘classic
on the cards’.
The next story though? ‘Rafa warns fans not to expect another thriller’.
There’s balanced journalism, chaps, and then there’s the painfully bleeding obvious.
