Microsoft Announces Anti-Piracy Day

Today Microsoft is making an effort to bring attention to the steps it has taken to reduce piracy of its software by announcing “anti-piracy day”.
Microsoft has created an interactive map that highlights the anti-piracy efforts of 49 different countries using interactive red dots and uses blue dots for comments made by end users duped into purchasing counterfeit Microsoft Windows products.
Their press release states that they are concerned about the negative impact on several things including legitimate business owners and general consumers. When counterfeit software is loaded on a computer, that computer is typically at increased risk for all sorts of malware like Trojan horses and computer worms and viruses. When Vista was first pirated, the main goal of the pirate was to get people to download the pirated copy and thereby become part of his botnet. Not a good thing.
Generally, trying to save a few bucks by purchasing a piece of software sold by someone you have never met and installing said “discount” software on your precious computer, will often times result in you spending much more money than you saved because of having to fix all the issues that popup thereafter.
